B I A A Beloved in Art Association
Chuck Hohng
Every visual composition holds a power upon its viewers. Images are transformed into works of art as meaningful symbols are continuously layered upon a sketch, all the while obsessively considering both composition and every minute detail. For myself, the real beauty of printmaking comes from the role repetition plays in the art form. By creating editions, the image begins to loose the initial power it once had over myself.
The body, in all its forms and phases throughout its lifespan, is a fascinating subject to me. Any state of being, from birth, to its decay to me, is a constant reminder of the human fate – that at some point, we are all going to be faced with the reality of our own mortality. By following the tradition of Memento Mori, with allegorical undertones, my work becomes a reminder of death as a symbol of life. My work illustrates a war between the fear, and the constant resistance to the fear of death, which in turn motivates individuals to live their lives to the fullest.
As an artist, my goal is to review the beauty of the body in all its stages, as well as to look at imperfections as marks of beauty and survival. It is my hope that my work makes the viewers think about the hidden tragedies in life that are often masked with euphemisms, and to provide them with time to meditate what is important in their course of their lives.
